    summary

Summary-This poem has been written by a great Metaphysical poet, John Donne (1572-1631). The poet in a lyrics mood expresses his tender feelings and delicate passions for his beloved. The metaphysical spirit contained in the poem has a perpetual appeal. By giving an analogy of the sun's journey in the light of human destiny the poet assures his beloved of his deep love and dedication to her. In order to express the power of love he has used hyperboles. He underlines the perpetuity of love in the light of the shortcomings of human life. The poet talks abou the transitoriness of human life and certainty of death. He renounces his beloved's desire and wants to undertake a journey speedier than that of the sun.
